Born in Rhode Island, Les Dudek's family
moved to Central Florida in 1959. He received his first guitar
as a Christmas present in 1964 and by the age of 15, he was
playing guitar professionally with a variety of Central Florida
garage bands including: The Steppin' Stones, The United Sounds,
Blue Truth and Power. Les continued to develop
his technique and his own unique style of playing. His southern
background was well apparent as the southern flavor of
his
music unfolded.
When he was 19, he left Florida and journeyed
north to Macon, Georgia where he lent his talents to the
Allman Brothers Band,
playing guitar
on two notable cuts, 'Ramblin' Man' and 'Jessica'. It was there
that Les' career began to take off. As news of this new guitar
talent
spread, Les was contacted by and went to work for California
blues rocker, Boz Scaggs. He also began moonlighting
with the Steve Miller Band, and became a much sought after
session player due to his talent and versatility of style.
Les was soon able to sign a solo deal with
CBS Records and during
the next six years released four critically acclaimed solo
albums. He also collaborated on the "DFK" album with
other CBS artists and appeared on Cher's "Black Rose" album,
writing several songs and playing guitar.
Les then took a break from playing and
touring to concentrate on his songwriting. This
hiatus resulted in some notable soundtrack
work including a collection of songs for the soundtrack to
the motion picture "Mask", and co-authoring the song,
'Sister Honey', which appeared on Stevie Nicks' "Rock
A Little" album.
In 1990, Les toured in both the United
States and Europe including performances at the Bonn Blues
Festival in Germany and the
Skanderborg Music Festival in Denmark. He worked on his
new recording project between gigs and session work and began
seeking a record deal. In late 1993 he signed with
GeoSynchronous Records and began recording additional tracks
in Altamonte Springs, Florida. He was able to complete the
new record, "Deeper Shades of Blues", in 1994.
"Deeper Shades of Blues" is Dudek's fifth solo album,
and his first release on GeoSynchronous Records. Previous releases
include "Les Dudek" (debut album), "Say No More", "Ghost
Town Parade", "Gypsy Ride", and "Dudek,
Finnigan, & Kruger", all on Columbia Records.
Les still calls Auburndale, Florida his home and lives there
when he is not on the road.
