Back in the early sixties, Art Furnari and Ronnie Carter (who's father was the Chief of Police in Eagle Lake, FL) had been hangin' out and jammin' on their guitars over at Ronnie's house on Sunday afternoons. Art had been interested in the rock and roll scene for some time - influenced by his younger brother, Ric, who had been playin' sax with the Elegants, another of the area's early garage bands.

When the guys began to think about forming a band, Ronnie introduced Art to Aaron Hancock, a local guitaist who had been working with the Dynamics from nearby Auburndale and had also booked some time with the Auburndale High School Ag Band.

Ric's group, the Elegants, had just broken up and although Ric had never played drums before - since that was what the new band needed - thats what Ric took up.

The Infernos were: Ronnie Carter - Bass; Aaron Hancock - Lead Guitar; Ric Furnari - Drums; Art Furnari - Guitar/Vocals/Manager.

After almost three months of rehearsals - on Labor Day 1962 - their new band, the Infernos, landed a gig at Pine Gardens (a honky tonk near Eagle Lake). That job would last the band about three more months.

Although it was generally difficult for a band that had played bars to gain acceptance into the teen scene, when the Pine Gardens booking played out, the band did managed to break into the Central Florida teen center circuit. They would also - over the next couple of years - be booked at a variety of events and venues including: the Air Base Club at Bartow Air Base, the Paladium Teen Club in Lakeland, a few fraternity parties at the University of Florida in Gainesville and Florida Southern College in Lakeland, as well as dances at Webber College in Babson Park (near Lake Wales), FL.

In 1964, part of the group wanted to expand the bands horizons by taking some out of state gigs but other members were not interested in the traveling aspect and the Infernos eventually disbanded.

Thanks to Art Furnari for the photo and biographical information. Art is the only surviving member of the Infernos.
