PERSONALITIES OF WEEK -

By Janet Newmyer

The new sound that is sweeping Florida is the sound of the Canadian Rogues. Although the sound is comparatively new to Florida, the boys have been together a little over two years.
The Canadian Rogues have played throughout most of Florida. They were fortunate enough to tour the Southeast with stars such as the Beau Brummels, Glen Campbell of Shindig, Roy Orbison, the ShangriLas, Sam the Sham and many others.
The Canadian Rogues' newest recording, OOP POOP-A-DOO, is going very well herb in the Central Florida area for the short time it has been released. We also understand it is doing well all over the nation. The record will be available in many of the record stores very soon. Three or four other records by the Rogues are to be released in a few months and we hope will also be in the top 50. Their first recording of HAVE YOU FOUND SOMEBODY NEW, did well on the carts in the northern and western sections of the country. This was all due to their personal manager John Criswell whom the boys respect highly.
Let's now meet the boys:
Willie Metts - the singer, was born in Panama City, Florida. He is 20 and is the oldest in the group. He loves to entertain people as do the rest of the Rogues. While on the East coast the boys tried surfing, but couldn't find a board big enough to hold Willie!
Harvey Criswell - provides the fabulous sound of the lead guitar. Born in Indianapolis, Ind., now 19, he has become the leader of the band. (He owns most of the equipment.) He now attends the University of Florida where he is a sophomore.
Dane Streets is the 19-year-old rhythm guitarist for the Rogues. Born in Montreal Canada, he is the shy one of the group. But like the others he agrees, "We love the Florida crowds - especially the fans! The kids in Florida are tops!" He was the only one to get the hang of the surfing bit.
Doug English - the 19-year-old drummer who gives the Rogues their driving beat. Doug was born in Sandy Cove, Nova Scotia, wherever that is. He likes to wear colorful clothes and collects rings. He says people who laugh at him don't bug him at all because he laughs all the way to the bank.
Ronnie Harrell - is the short (6-foot, 2-inch) bass guitarist of the group. Ronnie was born in Evansville, Ind., and is the youngest of the group at 18. Although he never smiles on stage, Ronnie is as friendly as anyone can be. Ronnie is the one you hear on stage with the high voice.
T he Canadian Rogues wanted to thank all, the people who come and see them because they say it would feel strange playing to a bunch of stage lights! As long as they play as well as they do now, they will never play for less than a packed house!
