When the Bluegrass Little Bits started playing bluegrass music at Allen's Historical Cafe in the latter part of 1977, the band's members ranged in age from 7 to 11 years old. The group consisted of Larry "Bunky" Jackson on guitar, Gilbert Hancock on banjo, Tammy Dockery on bass, Clint Dockery on mandolin and fiddle and later, Keith Tew on guitar.
The Little Bits performed on Allen's annual Auburndale Bluegrass Festival for the first time in 1978 (the second festival) and for several years thereafter.
Carl Allen took great pride in the young band and often showed off their talents when he would do guest appearances on area television shows. Mr. Allen believed not only in the band's ability to play, but also in their ability to become something special.
Members of the band made their way in and out of Allen's Cafe throughout the years, until its closure. The band even did a special reunion show before the doors of the restaurant closed.
The Bluegrass Little Bits have a special place in their hearts for Mr. Allen and his contribution to Bluegrass music.
